Rank titles and military insignia?

Q: What are those titles and what looks like military insignias under each member's name in their posts?

There are two ranges of titles (and insignias). The first is set automatically by the software as follows:
  • "Probationary" is anyone who has posted less than 10 times.
  • "New User" is anyone who has posted 10 times.
  • "Regular User" is anyone who has posted 50 times.
  • "Experienced User" is anyone who has posted 100 times.
  • "Mentor" is anyone who has posted 200 times.
  • "Wizard" is anyone who has posted 400 times.
  • "Superuser" is anyone who has posted 800 times.

The second set of titles (and insignias) is set by forum management as follows:
  • "Moderator" is an active member of the management team who operates the discussion group.
  • "Guru" is an original founder of the discussion group, a former moderator, or a respected specialist in the study of U.S. racialism, but who does not actively participate in managing the forum
  • "Administrator" is me.

Why did the system consider me a "Wizard" before and then decide to demote me based on number of posts? Not that the rank makes any difference to me...it just seems strange.

Grade inflation!

I had earlier set the levels too low. Even newbies were getting "mentor" ranks. So I increased the levels yesterday. Sort of like grading on a curve.<grin>
