Having just joined I was stimulated to find right away that a member had posted a question to which I could respond. Unfortunately, my attempt to do so generated a pop-up informing me that only members having special access could post. Here is my own question then; why does this discussion have closed sections? Do the members of such a section believe that only they can provide meaningful insights on the questions raised among themselves? I'm afraid I don't get it. Would someone explain the reasoning behind closing people out? It seems rather unnecessary and self-defeating to me.

With respect,
Bayano

Two reasons:

First, we need to be able to stop spammers and trolls, and to suspend posting privileges temporarily when debate becomes ad hominem. The distinction between membership and posting privilege results in a momentary delay between when you register and when you get posting privilege.

Second, one of the forums (Women Only) is by invitation only from the moderator. This provides a place where the gentle sex can let their hair down and discuss topics of feminine interest.

You can now post anywhere except in the "women only" forum. If you want to post into "Women Only," contact that forum's moderator.

Thanks for the explanation and the opportunity to post. Please consider bringing this information to the attention of new members sooner perhaps by including it in the excellent "Posting Rules" document.

I'm looking forward to being an active and constructive member of this list. Very Happy

Best regards,
Bayano

That's a good idea. I shall work something up.
