But what I'm certain of regards this issue... is that self identified Mulattos can't be charged playing "tragic" in light of the fact other people "use" their ancestors tragic pasts to gain political, social, and economic leverage in the U.S. today.

That's a good one.....I must file that one away to use in the future.

WAIT A SECOND HERE GUYS! Its time to set the record straight.

Firstly:

1. I sincerely apologize for purposefully allowing some people here to pitty me in order to gain sympathy on my side and ward off my detractors.

Now, about me:

2. My mom isn't really Jewish, and neither am I. My family background is Jewish like generations ago. I dont identify that way at all, and I only said I did because for a few years thats how I saw myself. Its a long story, lets just say I aint tho.

3. I wasnt picked on by blacks as a child. I was confronted by one-droppist-blacks maybe five or six times. Those events stuck in my head, but its not like I was being accosted daily. Hardly. Mostly they left me alone.

4. My friends never even asked me what "race" I was growing up. They just left me alone and considered me white for all intents and purposes.

5. I never felt ashamed of how I looked as a kid, actually, I never even thought about it. My appearance has never bothered me untill a few years ago when I got into this activism, and that was mostly because I worried that I didnt look like anything in particular, and I wanted to look 'mulatto'. But like I said, that was only for a short time, now its not an issue.

6. I have never felt ashamed of myself for being mulatto. As a kid, I was made to feel ashamed of myself, however, many times, for being associated with blacks. But anyone would feel ashamed for thinking they are supposed to be lumped together with people they dont regard in high esteem and forced to associate with a history they despise and which is totally foreign. Basically, Im fine with being mixed, its great, I just didnt feel good being lumped together with african americans.

7. Im not interested in advocating a mulatto identity or a mulatto culture. I was only trying to do that for a few months, when I realized it was insanely rediculous for reasons I have publically articulated very often.

8. I think identifying according to racial lines is idiotic really. Im all for social inclusion for everyone who is mainstream, and I am opposed to ethnocization of non-caucasians ( because its racist ). That means I oppose mulatto identity, as well as black, as well as chicano, etc. But, I realize that each person must make their own choice, and so I will not try to force anything on another person.

Hope that wraps things up!
