What does mean? What is traditionally African? Egyptians or Koi-Sans, Berbers or Bantues?

You bet.

You are mixing pears and apples. Yes, Palestianeans are Asians like Japaneses and East Indians, but rational people know they are different people.

Of course. As are latinos. But we recognize common ground.

And in Latin America. Afrodescent people tend to have a lot more common ground than in Africa itself.

Afrikaners as well. French Argelians can apply too. Spaniards born in Spanish Morocco or in the Canarias could apply too. Why not? They are all descendents of Kemet Wink

No, they are not. And thus your rhetoric goes into strawmen when you can't debate what has been stated. Afrikaners are of the historical origin of Holland. As for the Algerians and Morrocans, it would depend on where there historic ancestry was from. Same with the Canaries.

Experiences is a very flexible term, too. What has in common a Malgache with a Berber camel rider? Define it please.

On Africa, not much. But while you find Malagaches in South America, not that many Berbers. And the Malagaches share slavery and common culture with Bantu in places like Peru.

Quote:
Flexible definition to say the least.

It has set parameters.

Latinos have a common ground because they share: (1) a history, (2) to speak in a Latin language, (3) a common culture.

Of course. Because people in Latin America has in common to be LATINOS. That's why the so call "afrodescent people" have more in common in the Americas than Africans in Africa. Because they are LATINOS.

What have in common?

If they are BLACK they have something in common: discrimination.
If they are not (most "Afrodescendents" are not Black) then I don't see what they could have in common.

Hi, everybody. This is my first post.

As an Argentine (born and grew up there) I think it would be unfair for me to say Argentines in general are "racists", there *are* racists like any other country in the world but I do admit that a lot of my folks have issues with skin color. Most of the time, it is done out of ignorance. Most Argentines do not have the opportunity to travel around the world and experience other people's cultures and backgrounds, therefore only when they travel to the US or other country they fully realized that they are not considered as "White/Europeans" as they always thought they were, but labeled as "Hispanic" with no difference from Mexicans or Peruvians. (not that I personally see a difference really)

Ignorance is in no way justification for racism, I am just trying to explain why some Argentines could be considered racists.

Nice try. Even if they are not seen as black, afrodescent people still have common histories in their families. They share history in common. Discrimination is not the only thing that is shared by people of Afrodescent.

Argentines? If it is, I think is terrible. There was an incident some time ago of some football players, an Argentine making a racist comment to a Brazilian, totally out of place. Disgusting. I just hope people in general do not put all Argentines in the same bag.

What a relief. Sometimes the bad behavior of 1 or 2 give such a bad reputation to the rest.

The truth is racism exist in Latin America and Iberia, particularly against foreigners that don't look like locals. Some Nordics, Chineses or Jews have been attacked sporadically, but the ones that have received the worst are Africans. Blacks have been attacked in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and several other countries because the simple reason they look different, and once in a while you can see those news in the newspapers.

That's exist. And it is as true as there are Nazi movements still alive and working in southern South America, where you can buy Hitler's book anywhere. And also, brand new books about nazism.

I am from an average Austral South American and I am not blind to the truth.

The situation is different in countries like Cuba, Peru or Brazil, and even in Uruguay, where Blacks make important minorities.
