1. What racial categories would exist? Not exist?
2. Would racial identification be mandatory, voluntary or nonexistent? Why?
3. Who could use the term "multiracial" or "mixed race" to refer to themselves? Would anyone be excluded?
4. Could the federal government collect race-based statistics? Why or why not?
5. Would you divide various ethnicities under larger racial categories?
6. Would you keep or discontinue color-based terms for race/ethnicity? |

| My altruistic and idealistic side says none of the six would be an issue in my world in terms of having to offer an explanation because everyone would be too busy highfivin' and huggin'. Hate to be so abrupt but my utopian wand doesn't have this kind of power. |

I like this answer. However, at OneDropRule website we take up the challenging issues of mixing "bloods." Should rules for splicing "races" or some other set of rules govern classifying Americans of multiple national origin heritage? My late father found his bi-national ethnic heritage to be nearly as hurtful as racism in the post-World War I era, when he was a schoolboy, in the 1920s. (Anglo-German.)
And isn't Machito's purpose easily circumvented by converting national origins back into "geographical races"? Native Americans remain thus the "red race," Asians "yellow," and Europeans "white" as Africans equate with "black"? Sagascend's questionnaire has not asked us whether government data collecting by classifying individuals in categories is necessary, or even is authorized under the Constitution, beyond only counting every decade how many people (human species) live where. (See U.S. Const, Art. I, §2, ¶3, and also 14th Amend., §2.)

What categories would apply or not apply?
Multiracial and Multi-cultural would be there, as well as Asian, not from the Indian Subcontinent, and Asian from the Indian Subcontinent--and a voluntary space for culture, such as Chinese, Siberian etc.
I would have Caucasian, plus the space for culture-- African, subSaharan, and North African, with the culture space. African-American, Caribean, with a choose any applicable race(same for multi-racial)--Polynesian, Micronesian, Native American (legal), Native American (illegal) and a seperate box for tribe or Nation.
I would make the US government stop denying the right of illegal Native Americans to list their identity on legal documents.
I would allow culture equal time with race is school discussions. I would expect the first could of thousand years of US History to be taught in every school.
I am a Mixed Blood. I like this term because it is old, reasonably well-known--but I admit to being jealous of my Black Indian relatives for having such a well-known culture and history.
