The Human Stain is a movie with a white male mulatto protagonist.

Here are some books, actually slave novels with a male mulatto protagonist:

Master of Falconhurst - Kyle Onstott
Mistress of Falconhurst - Lance Horner
Heir to Falconhurst - Lance Horner
Falconhurst Fancy - Lance Horner & Kyle Onstott
Scandal at Falconhurst - Ashley Carter
Rogue of Falconhurst - Ashley Carter
Taproots of Falconhurst - Ashley Carter
Flight to Falconhurst - Lance Horner
Falconhurst Fugitive - Ashley Carter
The Mustee - Lance Horner
Mandingo Master - Ashley Carter
Miz Lucretia of Falconhurst - Ashley Carter

The bold titles are a sub series

It is hard to find research on "mulattoes" under that name. Americans hide the research under the label of lighter or more prosperous "blacks."

In this book, you will find that almost every "black" male in a marriage or domestic arrangment with a 'white" woman is a mulatto:

White Women, Black Men : Illicit Sex in the Nineteenth-Century South
