I just noticed that some of the topics on the women only forum have nothing to do with Women Only. Shouldn't topics that are "Women only" be at least gender based? If not it just becomes a an exclusivity forum with gender bias with no real purpose except the sense that women need to be protected from male opinion on all things.

No, I don't think the womens forum should strictly be about gender. I see it as just a women only perspective which is quite nice sometimes. I think it would be nice to have a men only forum aswell.

I agree. If we are going to be about gender bias just for the reason of gender bias, then it should be equal. To be honest I don't see much difference in the opinions by gender here anyway.

Oh I definately think there is a difference in how men and women communicate but I won't go there. I think the topics in the womens forum is a tangent from other women issues.

I concur but would add the word "big" in front of the word "difference."

I feel that the Women's Only forum was created for the purpose of us women who want to discuss issues that are relevant to our interests amongst ourselves. Concerning the topics of discussion in the Women Only forum, topics of interest to women should not be relegated to "Chick flicks", make-up and glamour, and whatever else is thought to be "woman-specific". There's even a forum for women where men are welcome to participate (protection from male opinion removed Very Happy ).

There's no doubt about this!

The reason I ask is some of those topics seem to be just mainstream topics, no different than those on the rest of the board.
i.e:

Not sure why that would be a women's only topic

I started this topic in the Women Only forum because I wanted to discuss this amongst the women here at ODR. I wanted our (women's) perspective on this issue. Race issues impact women very differently than men in a lot of cases and I was interested in women's perspective. If you'd like, either you or I could start this topic in another forum where men can participate.

I see a big difference in responses and thoughts when it comes to gender.

LOL this reminds me of the way I and most whites feel with POC-only groups. Laughing

eta: those groups are there for a reason.

Kalima, what is POC? I looked it up but only found Professional Organizers of Canada, (which in itself amazes me that closet cleaners would have a professional organization.)
