Do you think it is 40%, 50% or more or lower than 40%? I know that your skin tone sometimes could be white looking but you have a lot of black inside of you admixture wise, and that you could be a little darker (light brownish white like Mariah Carey or dark brownish like Rosie Perez) in skin but have a lot of white in you sometimes. But do you feel that on average what you see is what you get. Henry Louis gates jr. is 50% white and 50% black according to his DNA test. Dr.Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot took an DnA test and she had 45% european (white) in her. dr. lightfoot was one of the nine famous people henry louis gates had DNA testing done on. Gates and Lightfoot are about the same complexion which is a Caramel brown. AlI I am asking is for a guess based upon your knowledge of of molecular anthropological and genetics, just guessing based upon their appearance. I am really very bad at guessing admixture from visible appearance. I guess personally that I tend to group people into five appearance categories. First, those who look utterly European to me, without any suggestion of Africa. These include people like Charles, A.D., myself, two of my three children, and three out of five of my grandchildren. I estimate such people at 0-20 percent SSA admixture. Second are those with a "Hispanic" look that I interpret as African influence, people like Linda Ronstadt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Geraldo, one my three kids and one of my five grandkids. I estimate them at 20-40 percent SSA. Third are people who look like the folks you posted (and one of my grandkids), where there is no doubt that that they are mixed. I estimate them at 40-60 percent SSA. Fourth are those who at first glance would pass without comment in a group of Nigerians but, when you look again, they have something distinctively European about them, usually in the shape of the skull. I guess them at 60-80 percent SSA. Finally, are the Geechee/Gullah people of the Sea Islands. Mary Lee and I are friends with another couple who perform music (Doug and Frankie Quimby). They and their relatives look "more African" to my eyes than many Nigerians. I think of them as 80-100 percent SSA. I know that my own perceptions are unreliable, however. Like Madison Grant, I tend to see all Welsh as mixed. Also, I have spent enough time in Africa to know that many native Africans do not "look African" to my New World eyes. Finally, I know that once you get past the first mixed generation, the random dice-throw of meiosis can produce some very unexpected differences between full siblings. I thought her Mexican father's parents were immigrants from Germany? Or do I have my facts wrong? Ronstadt is certainly a Germanic surname. Like some have said, it's difficult to determine admixture by eye-balling. Even if we did guess, we could only know if those people took an admixture test. I was going to put up Kerry Washington and Will Smith. Edit: I'll put them up anyway. Kerry Washington. I'd estimate that she's somewhere between 50 - 70 % African. Sometimes she looks like a mixed girl (AA and white), other times she looks like a regular A-A. Obviously mixed, but imo she leans towards the afro side. Will Smith. Not sure, I don't think he's any less than 50% African to be honest, despite his skin color. ? I have a pretty good guess, but any info I give on her would be a give away.
