In the past, the German and German-Jamaican population was much larger. One of my relatives worked at the internment camp for "Germans" during WWII. According to my father, they were a larger community in his youth.
The population's low number is due primarily to out-marriage that occurred in the past. Hence, many people in the surrounding areas and other areas of German settlement have German ancestry. That doesn't mean they are 100% German. It just means they have some German ancestry. In many instances, the ancestry is quite visible, and that doesn't mean they look German either.
Read Riccardo Orizio's "The Lost White Tribes". There's a chapter on the German Jamaicans in Seaford Town. The author notes that the community has become smaller due to miscegenation.
I've met a few of these people of German descent (I'm not talking about German Jamaicans). They acknowledge their ancestry, but do not see themselves as German, just people with German along with other ancestries. Many see themselves as black people. Many see themselves as mixed. Some see themselves as white (probably the minority). |

| I am a friend from Guyana , like this. His grandfather is a pure Black guy. You can't see any mixture on that guy. Yet my friend is a pure white guy and his father is a little tanned. I think there was a post on this website about black people having white babies. It can happen. For the people who think that there are only 'black' Carribeans, please go take vacation. |

Problem is unless you know his geneology, you really don't know if he is a "pure black guy".
This guy turned out to be 67% European in the genetics of his body.
