People Magazine names her one of “Nashville’s Hottest New Country Stars”, while Ebony Magazine crowned her “The Storyteller”, one who’s “Breaking the Sound Barriers” in music! Whatever the tag, all agree that Miko Marks is an artist in sync with the times, and on the frontlines of unprecedented change!
Named "Best New Country Artist" by New Music Weekly, her debut album, “Freeway Bound”, also received acclaim as the "2007 Country Album of the Year”, at The Independent Music Awards. Among the judges were country icons, Wynonna Judd, and Patti Loveless, of The Grand Ole Opry. Miko is the only African American woman in the history of country music to receive such honors. Her newly released CD, “It Feels Good” is currently gaining large amounts of respect as well.
Originally from Flint, Michigan, Miko discovered her vocal gift at a young age, while her songwriting talents have continued to sharpen with maturity and experience. Miko wrote 7 of the 10 cuts off her award winning debut Cd, “Freeway Bound” while she contributed a couple more gems to her sophomore project, “It Feels Good.”
“This Storyteller”, possesses a pure, powerhouse voice that shines crystalline without the help of modern studio gadgetry. Her influences cross the barriers of generation, genre, and race, while it’s said that her live performances can make believers out of the toughest critics.
Miko currently tours the nation with the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo. She’s performed for Major League Baseball, and for Monday Night Football. She’s done countless radio interviews, been a feature on NPR, and on local TV networks across the country. In 2008 and beyond, Marks prepares for “prime time”! She looks forward to future interviews, and national performance opportunities with the likes of Oprah, Jay Leno, and David Letterman. In legendary tradition, Miko Marks is making a way where there was once “no way”. Now she continues…Onward & Upward”!
