Dean Cain was born Dean George Tanaka in Mount Clemens, Michigan, to actress Sharon Thomas and half-Japanese U.S. Army serviceman Roger Tanaka; he is one-quarter Japanese, Welsh, French and Irish. His parents divorced before he was born. His mother later married film director Christopher Cain, and the family moved to Malibu, California. Christopher Cain adopted Dean and his brother, musician Roger Cain. He is most famous for potraying Superman in the television series 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman.'

Here in a early 1976 film 'Buzzard'

He played a Hawaiian character on the television show 'Life Goes On'. I guess with his look, he could 'pass' for several different ethnicities to casting directors.

I used to love that show.
My friends and I (we're all of different Asian extractions) knew straight off that he was not a straight up white boy.) We all figured he was Eurasian or hapa. Curiously, alot of the white girls we spoke to, didn't figure him for part Asian. Its apparent with the bridge of his nose and his cheek bones. Very Happy

His picture as a child he looks Hawaiian Polynesian or Asian

Dean Cain has made numerous appearances in the Asian-American press over the years. The very first articles I read when "Lois & Clark" premiered clearly mentioned his unique ethnic background, of which he was plainly very proud.

I learned that the reason why he named his production company Angry Dragon Entertainment for "Ripley's Believe It or Not" was to honor his Japanese heritage. Also, Cain's character of Tre Ramzey in "Future Sport" clearly lives in a home that is decorated in a traditional Japanese motif and even shares a homemade sushi wrap with Vanessa Williams, which strongly indicates the character's Japanese roots. Finally, in the TV movie "Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness," Cain portrays a Japanese American father named Bruce Murakami.

Dean is in the 'Rock the APIA Vote' PSA (The Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote).

When he smiles he his Asian looks are very apparent. Here he is with Vanessa Williams in "FutureSport"
