I know it is a little late. Last Sunday, I wanted to post this thread when Obama was in Indiana for Notre Dame's commencement. Should Cathoilc Univs. adhere to the teachings of the Church and not have allowed Obama to be guest speaker ? Xavier Univ. in New Orleans had Ms.Brazile be the commencement speaker and Archbishop Hughes of New Olreans declined to attend his usual place at the commencement. The chruch condemns abortion under any circumstances. Obama and supporters like Brazille do not condemn abortion .
( I do not have a scanner and I do not want to scan the article. I am mailing it to Dr.Sweet. He'll post it for us.The article from Archbishop Hughes was in the weekly Catholic newspaper called,The Clarion Herald,May 2, 2009, page 6.)
My opinion- I am pro-choice. I am not anti-abortion and I am not pro-abortion. I remember President and Mrs. Barbara Bush were only if the mother's life was in danger. Correct me if I am mistaken about their stand. Many people, Republicans too, have that stand or in cases of rape/incest. The Catholic church's teaching is abortion is condemned period. Rape, incest, mother's life in danger, so what.

I am pro-life. BUT, I think there are exceptions. Among those are if the life of the mother is in jeopardy, and the other is rape and incest. If the Church thinks there cannot be any exceptions, then I disagree with the Church. That said, someone like Obama should not speak at Catholic institutions, IMO.
A childhood friend went thru a very difficult pregnancy in 2001 at almost 40. Abortion was put out as an option by the doctors. They refused. The baby was born 4 months premature, so small she could fit in the palm of an adult hand. Log story short, I saw them in the beginning of May, and she is now normal and excelling in Karate. I am not saying this is, or should be everones story, but I think it is a good story.
