well, im chinese but i never have complete straight hair. in fact quite a bit of them are on the wavy/curly side and rest is just hold whatever shape they got air-dried in.
i dont like going back to hong kong (where im from) to have my hair cut because they constant suggest that either i got a straight/ionic perm (which i dont like) or just cut it short (which look bad on me).
im in canada right now and a indian lady cuts my hair, i dont know how that gonna turns out and mayb i might have to get a new hair dresser if the next appointment doesnt work out.
What happens if you blow dry your hair? Usually, this tends to make my hair a lot straighter than if I allow my hair to air dry.
well i dont like blow dryer and right now i have a diffuser. I am those people so need straighten cream to make my hair look polished. otherwise it look like a broom....

I've learned that when I get my hair done that a MILD texturizer works great for me. My hair is SUPER, SUPER curly. When natural, I can do the "wet it and go" look but I turn into a mirage of straw curls instead of those pretty flowing locks. But I'm cool with that! Now, my daughter on the other hand - when doing her hair I SWEAR by Carol's Daughter products, like Mimosa Hair Honey, Hair Butter and Hair Milk. Her hair drys out really fast and those products do the trick!

I've had awful experiences at most black salons. I have type 4 hair and for the longest, most stylists only wanted to straighten it. I've suffered all sorts of hideous, greasy styles & too much hair damage.
I haven't been to a 'beautician' in years. I now wear my hair naturally curly-kinky in different styles. I had dreadlocks for several years but cut and detangled last year.
The last salon I tried was a natural-friendly one and my stylist was great(fabulous demeanor, environment, properly scheduled time) but super-pricey for something I can do myself.
BTW: I have the so-called Negroid (I say 'so-called' because I've known a few Euros with the same..lol!)hair but I don't agree with the infrequent washing comment at all. My hair *loves* good water, moisture...I have to co-wash(or at least rinse) at least 3x a week. It (and my skin) looks better in humid climates too, requires less moisturizers etc..
My multiracial children (French & Asian from my DH and West African, German Jewish, Irish, & Native Am. mix from me) have Type 2 to 3 hair and so far I've been caring for it. They require a lot less product but can use the same items I use on my hair (filtered or distilled water, products from Pantene, Finesse, Ouidad..also Olive oil, Amla oil,... Denman brushes).
I also watch a lot of neat haircare vids on Youtube. Things are much better than when I was young (I think)..more choices, knowledge, & tolerance. I'm so glad that the day of the grease and scorch is behind me. LOL!
