S. President to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 90 years and while there were congratulations aplenty, the loudest voices were from his detractors. Many expressed naked contempt and called Obama undeserving. Some said he should have refused the award because he did nothing of note. Some even said that the award was a slap at George W. Bush. Wow, a world body bestows what is generally considered the most coveted award in existence on the sitting President of the United States and they witness venom coming from some of those he was elected to serve. There is something deeper in play regarding Obama. Apparently, the decision was made before February 1, several days after Obama's inauguration. According to Nobel Committee Chairman Thorbjorn Jagland, "The prize often has been used to encourage laureates rather than reward them for their achievements." That is the main difference between the Peace Prize and the scientific prizes, which are strictly for achievement, and are handled by a different committee in a different country. For example, Yasser Arafat was also awarded the Peace Prize as a gesture of hope. (Unfortunately, it did not work.) In any case, what does this have to do with a U.S. ethnicity?
