Sorry your experience at Mulatto.org wasn't a favorable one. Hopefully you can find another forum that's more to your liking.

For what it's worth, my own impression of mulatto.org is quite favorable. Their mission is different from ours, of course. They cater to a biracial membership and focus on topics of interest to such membership. ODR, on the other hand, caters to people who want to learn/teach about the U.S. "race" notion as a unique social phenomenon. Obviously, there is great overlap between these two fields. But there are also differences.

Because ODR strives to be scholarly, we jump all over anyone who makes factual claims without evidence, even if the false claims are made politely. On the other hand, if a person brings verifiable facts, we tolerate some discourtesy. My impression of Mulatto.org is that it is less tolerant of rudeness, but more tolerant of unsubstantiated speculation. It does not suprise me to see mulatto.org posts citing ODR as a source of scholarly facts, or to see ODR posts recommending mulatto.org as a support group for those of multiracial self-identity.

There are also differences in management style. ODR, for instance, talks about "suspending" posting privileges for a week when a member flies out of control, while mulatto.org uses the term "banning" as if it was for life. And mulatto.org requires a valid email, but ODR does not. But these differences seem to be more of form than substance.

Ya your right and I do apologize to Hanzou for my negative opinion about mulatto.org. Now that I think about it it may have been too harsh. I guess I was ranting on a bad day lol, which of us don't have those! At first when I frequented there I saw a lot of crazyness going on. It seems they did a lot of reform there and I definitely applaud them for that.

Laughing Some people can't handle the truth challenging their mythologies. I swear mulattocentrism is just as bad as Afrocentrism when it closes it's mind.

What got me banned

Egyptians weren't mulatto.

Black as a self identity is just as fine as mulatto for mixed people.

The word mulatto did not come from muwallad based on the evidence i have gathered.

I like debating salsassin/otorongo because he makes ignorant alegations with no evidence, and it's fun refuting him with stats and sources. Rolling Eyes

So feel free to give me the stats on how many different usernames have posted in the last month. And how many of those posted more than once.

I don't see a purpose in doing that. Someone can just go to the forums themselves and see we have a wide variety of people posting.

Been there, done that. I'm sure you have enough members that tow the line, lol.

Wow. I am really disappointed at some of the things I've read in this thread. Crying or Very sad

Today is my first day posting at ODR, but I've been posting at mulatto.org for about 6 months and I LOVE MULATTO.ORG!!! In fact, I was offered the honor of becoming a moderator and have been enjoying that for a couple of months now, too!

If you haven't checked mulatto.org out in a while, then I'd like to let you know that there are two different message boards, now. 1. the Positive Resource Board, where you will STILL get banned pretty quickly if you insist on arguing and posting derogatory posts and 2. the Debate and Free Speech Board, where the rules are a lot more lax.

We also still have the MySpace page up and running and there's a MySpace group to boot! Very Happy

In my experience with mulatto.org, some members and guests have mistakenly taken the words and actions of certain members and moderators as representative of the mission of and mindset behind mulatto.org. That, of course, can not possibly be the case, especially when you read through some of the debates on the debate board. How can opposing views all represent mulatto.org? Of course, the racist or "mulattocentric" views are the ones that get ascribed to mulatto.org, while those of us who speak out against racism and "mulattocentrism" are overlooked by our detractors. We allow our members and moderators to be themselves, so you have to take what an individual member or moderator does or says as ONLY representing that person.

In conclusion, I invite you all to check us out, or check us out again. Mr. Green

Says a minimum of 25% black. Not sure how to quantify that. My mom identified black but is phenotypically white. Her whole family is the same way, identifies black but look white or maybe 'mixed'.

Sal,
I think you probably know that I, personally, have never banned anyone from the debate board. In fact, since I've been a moderator NO ONE has been banned from the debate board.

If you're referring to your situation over there, then I think you must know that I lifted your one-week, legitimate suspension (which had NOTHING to do with ideology) precisely one week after you were suspended. And, quite frankly, I was disappointed when you did not resume posting.
