The movie Good Hair opens October 9.
I saw a preview for it and it looks like as funny movie.
I do not like calling hair good hair and bad hair.
This movie is interesting depending on what you have, where yo grew up,and who you grew up around.
I do have bad hair. LOl. I have soft, coarse hair. I do not have BB shots which are little knotts.
I don't have pretty hair. That is what it is called where I came from.
Pretty hair. I get a perm.It is called a relaxer.Perm relaxer, both are a lie and contain lye. Same thing to me. I like my hair permed. My hair is black , but I like to color it shades of brn w/lighter brn. or reddish, auburn highlights sometimes. I like to get my hair cut and change styles. A twist. Flat iron out. Headband it. Wear down. Whatever.
I am not a Brick He'a, Brick Head.They don't pronunce the letter d here.
These people have hair that feels like a brick, but I think it is ued for those with light colored hair,blond,blondish-brn who have brick feeling hair.
I grew up around 14 girl cousins from both sides and I am the only girl who had coarse hair. Three had curly, wavy hair which is really pretty to me. The rest had straight hair. Some had straight like an Asian person's hair. Some had straight hair like some Hispanic people or some WA. They had no curl. No wave. Nothing. Put a comb in it and it can fall to the floor. Wash and go. Some WA and Hispanics wish they had hair like this.
I have been told about my hair by others while I was growing up.
"Don't you wish you had hair like me?"
"Why is Sabrina's hair different?"
"How come ,where, did she get her hair from?"
"You do not have hair like your daddy's people."
"Girl,if you go to__________,your hair would be beautiful!"
"You need to go to people who know how to do your kind of hair."
"______ is just used to doing straight hair. You can't go to her where your cosuins go."
I was in two family weddings in the 90's and I was the only girl out of all the girls who did not have straight hair or curly hair. All of the girls like me were relatives of the bride. Both brides had curly straight mixed hair.
Anyway ,I like my hair. It is mine. I accepted my hair along time ago.
I do not get wigging and weaving. Lots of Black girls are doing that. I don't get it. That is what then movie is about. I can understand entertainers for having more of hair, everything being on stage.
I can understand having a wig, weave, tracks for a different look like a party, but not day in day out.
I will not put that hair cap,cap of hair on my head. Idon't get.
I would be itching. Sweating. Like I said,I like changing my hair weekly. Daily. I could not have those restrictions of a weave, wig, track is.
I know WA wear these too. Jessica Simpson has earned tons of money with her hairstylists,Ken Paves,on their hair peices called Hair-Do. I donotthinkBAgirlsarebuying JS's Hair-Do.

It is a misconception that all WA have straight hair or good hair. I have seen some WA with ,I always say, with some nappy shit up therre.
Same for some Hispanics.
Most people do not know BA with straight hair or curly-wavey-straight mix hair.
I am BA,but I do not understand some BA women ,like in this movie, and their hair.Fix it.Perm it. Color it. Style it.
Can you swim in that costly and time consuming hair weaves, tracks and wigs?
I don't get it.

It reminds me of 'School Daze'...'Talkin' 'bout good hair...
'I have fine, tangly hair, coily & often frizzy & lots of it...'a nice grade', but not 'GH', at least my family's definition (most likely same definition as your family's). Some AA's have called my hair 'GH', but it is not! I used to relax my hair, but it would be so pin straight & flat and I was always having to put in those caruso rollers for a curl/ wave. I stopped relaxing it 10 years ago & I have a half-fro.
I about DIED reading 'BB shots' in your post! I just had a baby a few months back & who knows what kind of hair/ or eye color she'll have...but it's all beautiful!
