I know we have talked about this before, but could you uys ive me movie examples where a darker black (or mixed) person has portrayed a light skinned mixed person?
I think there was one of Adam Clayton Powell and of Anwar Saddatt, but my brain is drawing a blank.
(also if you can think of any visibly Afrodescent person has portrayed a historical non-afrodescent person) |

Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was protrayed by Sidney Poiter.

Paul Winfield played Martin Luther King, Jr.
Andre Brauer (not sure about last name, guy from Homicide on NBC) played A. Phillip Randolph.
Louis Gossett Jr. played Anwar Sadat
Thandie Newton played Sally Hemmings
Ben Vereen played Chicken George, Alex Haley's biracial ancestor
A darkskinned actress also portrayed Rosa Parks in a movie but I can't remember who.
Happens a lot. |

Rosa parks Portrayed by Angela Basset
 
A. Philip Randolph portrayed by Andre Braugher
 
Not sure about these as they look fine to me:
Martin Luther King Jr. portreayed by Winfield (other than a tan they look similar, features might be different)
 
Thandie Newton played Sally Hemmings
Ben Vereen played Chicken George, Alex Haley's biracial ancestor
I don't know Hemming's or Chicken George's description

was she really? I specifically remember hearing Ms Cruz, on the talk show 'Cristina' saying that her mother was "mulata", and her father was black. |

| Cruz was known as "Azucar Negra", Black Sugar. She's described herself as black in many interviews. Her features could just as easily reflect the particular African ethnicities within her. Just like different Europeans look different from each other, different Africans look different from each other as well. |

Egyptians were very upset when Lou Gossett Jr played Anwar Sadat. To me, aside from the skin color difference, they look very much alike. But I doubt the controversy was about his appearance. It seemed related to his ethnicity, being a Black American in particular.
When Geoffrey Wright played MLK in "Boycott" (an HBO movie) I thought it was perfect casting. He was probably lighter than MLK was in actuality but he looks a lot more like him than Paul Winfield. Carmen Ejogo played Corretta Scott King - another fine choice appearance-wise. The actress playing Rosa Parks was a dead ringer.

It was a combination of Gosset's being Black American and not Egyptian and his complexion, at least this was how it was presented here in the U.S. People from that part of the world are very color struck.
Apparently, Sadat's wife wanted Gosset to play Sadat. |

Naw, she has a face that is typical of people that have Afro and Indigenous ancestry. In Latin America, as words like Zambo lost popularity, many afroindigenous populations with lihter skin were also refered to as Mulato. She identified as negra, but she show Afroindigenous factions. |
