Before I found this forum, I must admit that I was a proponent of the one drop rule. I didn't think there was a choice, and I believed the rhetoric.

Now, I appreciate the enlightenment I'm receiving.

For the first time, I'm finding that the experiences I had growing up, on the receiving end of a tremendous amount of psychological abuse by blacks because I wasn't black enough wasn't a fluke or something that only happened to me.

On this forum, I see many people who have had similar experiences. And it's beginning to dawn on me -- the abuse many of us suffered would be considered a hate crime if mixed/mulatto/multiracial people were recognized as a distinct ethnic group.

Because hate crime fits exactly what we've suffered.

What do you think?

Hi Collage, welcome!!! This is what happens when you can have honest, intellectual discussions in a non-hostile environment. You can learn as oppossed to being told what to think by the proponents of the "Soul Patrol". When I was younger, I was very intimidated by these people. I felt as if I couldn't be who I really was because I would be chastised by them. Now I don't care!!!

But I think it's more than mulatto/multiracial. Many sub Saharan Africans who reside in the US encounter some of the same problems with American Self Identified Blacks (SIB).

Intresting thing is, I took up my interest in the discussion of One Drop to make whites uncomfortable. That was in the '80s. Now today, many whites find it fascinating that it is accepted by SIBs!! That's my experiences, not saying it's the norm.

This forum is great because it is informative with factual information and it does not have the One Drop Bullies that are on the black forums who become extremely hostile when introduced to substantiated information.

Happy posting!!

Hi Collage

Wow - You know, you are right? That is what it is. Hate crime. Your post enlightened me.

Anyway - I also feel like you - that this board has empowered me by showing me that my experiences were not unique and also raising my consciousness.

Thanks for the post.
