Here's a link to a very long and fascinating interview with author Peter Wade on tropical music in Colombia. Wade is the author of Music, Race, and Nation: Musica Tropical in Colombia and the interview addresses African, Indigenous, and European influences on Colombian music.

From the introduction:

Simon Rentner, Afropop Worldwide’s newest producer, had the pleasure of interviewing Professor Peter Wade, author of the book “Music, Race and Nation: Música Tropical in Colombia.” This book is a “must read” for any Colombian ethnomusicologist – or anyone interested in learning about the happy, bouncing music from Colombia’s Atlantic Coast. After reading it -- and speaking to Colombian musicians – Simon discovered the importance of Wade’s work. For example, it influenced entrepreneur Robert Kelley to launch his Costeño music record label, Chonta Records, based in New York City. Then, he recorded Martin Vejarano, the co-founder of La Cumbiamba eNeye, who is bringing traditional gaita music to international audiences, in some cases, for the first time. This is quite a feat, given that the musicians from the gaiteros in Colombia have been marginalized and discriminated against for centuries. Martin Vejarano is also prominently featured in this great Hip Deep radio program. Certainly, we must give some credit to Professor Peter Wade for these chain of events, which, for me, adds a bit of magic to his already groundbreaking research. Thank you Peter Wade. Below is Simon’s full interview with him.

In Peter Wade, Blackness and Race mixture: The Dynamics of Racial Identity in Colombia (Baltimore, 1993), 7-8, he wrote that colonial Hispanic intermarriage was deliberately calculated to destroy the Black “race.” He is among the many professors who view the legalization of intermarriage as deliberate planned genocide.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. These so-called "liberals" call EVERYTHING "whites" do "racist." If you enslave them, you're racist. If you marry them, you're racist. Average Americans of good will will give up in disgust. Can you blame them?
