Hey Frank,
When did the site header name change from ODR.org to Thestudyofracialism.org?
A better term I agree, due to our varied dicussions, but what made you decide to change it after all this time and when did you change it? I just noticed it today.
Thanks!

Congratulations! I was wondering who would be the first person to notice the change, and how long it would take. I changed it yesterday morning. You can now access this site with the new URL (TheStudyOfRacialism.org) or with the old (OneDropRule.org). Both URLs will continue to bring users here indefinitely, since I am not planning to phase out the OneDropRule.org domain or its URL.
The new name is based on suggestions received from the live discussion group that Backintyme Publishing hosts every Wednesday evening in Second Life. Apparently, the name "OneDropRule" discourages novice visitors who think it means that the group advocates the ODR. The most popular alternative name among the live Second Life discussion group was "The StudyOfRacialism," and so we acquired that domain name.
If all goes as planned, gradually all internet instances of "OneDropRule.org" will be replaced by "The StudyOfRacialism.org." As I mentioned, however, the old URL and domain name will continue to work indefinitely so that search engines like Google will not freak out, and so that users' bookmarks/favorites will continue work.

Hi, Frank I haven't posted here in awhile, but I usually like to read new threads. Tonight Pacific Time I tried to read new threads by clicking each topic heading, and I was redirected to an error page-error 404.
I did notice the name change and wondered if that had anything to do with it. I have saved the ODR on my favorites and usually get in easily.
This time I had to go through yahoo and then log in, so I could read the threads. |

Well, anything is possible in the cyber-world. But I doubt that either the name-change on the board's header, nor the adding of a new domain name pointing to this site, could have had that effect. The former change was purely cosmetic, and the latter change would have affected access via the TheStudyOfRacialsm.org URL but not via the OneDropRule.org URL.
One possibility is that you may have switched computers or run a clean-up program on your computer. The software keeps track of who you are (to determine which posts you have read) is by storing a "cookie" with that information in your hard drive. If that "cookie" is erased, you must log in again (and check off the "remember me" checkbox). Is the problem still happening or did it go away? |

First time I noticed it was yesterday, I thought somehow I posted in some other forum by mistake, it scared me. |

I noticed something was odd the minute I logged on, but it didn't quite sink in until after a few minutes. I think the new title better describes the many varied topics we discuss here.
I just got back from the Azores yesterday, and had a great time. A Portuguese friend who has roots in the Azores wanted to visit distant cousins and do some genealogy there, and asked if I wanted to come along to help. Naturally, I jumped at the chance. The islands are beautiful, the people are wonderful, and I'm surprised (but glad) the archipelago has not turned into a mass tourist area. Four days wasn't long enough for genealogy or sight-seeing, and we're definitely going back next year! |
