The attention brought to this child, and the 15 pages of comments on the site about him are troubling. None of the other children have so many comments.

Everything from praising him and his eyes as being "a gift from god", to calling him freak show.

There are look of "Black" people with blue eyes, particularly in the West Indies and parts of Brazil, isn't?

Dark skinned people with blue eyes are much more uncommon.

I think the contrast between dark skin and blue eyes (which are sometimes thought of as being restricted to northern Europe) is what fascinates people.

But they must be quite a lot people like that in the U.S., isn't?

In Latin America there are few, mainly because the European people that came here were Southern Europeans and most of them have dark eyes.
In Jamaica and Certain part of Brazil there are many, I believe. And I have also seen picture of people like that in North Africa

North-Africans are not Black, they are Mediterranean people related to Middle-Easterners.

Well, African Americans have large ammounts of European genes, it is visible on their faces, they do not look like pure Africans and are lighter skined than them. Perhaps those blue eyes come from European DNA, Michael Jackson's father is green eyed.

Assuming that the above was a misspelling and that sirius2008 means "Black," I wouls like to know which meaning of the word was intended: African-American, sub-Saharan, or something else entirely. Please see The Rules paragraph 3.3.11 for details.

My, he is a popular baby. We had a conversation about him over at mulatto.org a while back. Here's the link, if anyone is interested:

http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/mulattodebate/vpost?id=1695491&trail=15

This was my two cents on the issue:

Quote:
I think that it just looks really cool and very different from the norm. I mean, I'm not saying HOORAY this kid's got white blood in him. That's just icky. But, come on, if a Chinese girl was born with naturally red hair, you'd be like, wow, that's kind of cool, right? I can't speak for anyone else, but it is the anomaly factor PLUS his blue eyes look WAY prettier against his dark skin than blue eyes typically look against white skin. On a similar note, I think it's WAY prettier for a black-haired white person to have blue eyes than for a blonde-haired white person to have blue eyes. It's all about the contrast. That's just my two cents on the issue. In general, I'm not real big on blue eyes.

In real life I have never seen a Black person upclose with blue eyes, but I have seen some with green eyes though the ones I have seen with green eyes, phenotype wise be considered more Mulato looking than rather than Black looking by Brazilian standards.

Among all places I 'have visited during mt three trips to Egypt, Aswan is probably the place I miss the most. It has a colonial atmosphere which reminds me the novels of Agatha Christie, the sky is usually blue, and there are plenty of temples, and plenty of white sailed feluccas zigzaging the Nile River. These boats are usually managed by Nubian boatmen who are the great experts about sailing on the Nile. Their skin is black like Africans, and I remember to have visited their villages iduring one tour.

Modern Egyptians

Population: 70,000,000 (2000)
Majority ethnic group : The majority of Egyptians are of Eastern Hamitic origin (shown here). Minority ethnic groups: Arab Egyptians (ruling class), Nubians (160,000), Arab Bedouin (150,000), Berber (6,000).

"And the Genius proceeded to enumerate and point out the objects to me: those piles of ruins, said he, which you see in that narrow valley watered by the Nile, are the remains of opulent cities, the pride of the ancient kingdom of Ethiopia. Behold the wrecks of her metropolis, of Thebes with her hundred palaces, the parent of cities, and monument of the caprice of destiny. There a people, now forgotten, discovered, while others were yet barbarians, the elements of the arts and sciences. A race of men now rejected from society for their black skin and wooly hair, founded on the study of the laws of nature, those civil and religious systems which still govern the universe. Lower down, those dusky points are the pyramids whose masses have astonished you."
Count C.F.C. de Volney, Ruins of Empire, 1789, chapter iv
