Two brown eyed parents giving birth to a blue eyed child seems logical, since blue is recessive. However, two blue eyed parents should not be genetically able to give birth to a brown eyed child. Questions that might arise - Is that really the baby's father? Are the baby's eyes really brown or is it too early to tell? Are the parents really blue eyed? Is it possible that one of the parents has bluish HAZEL eyes and that the baby has dark HAZEL eyes.
Hazel is pretty much what you call it when the eyes are not blue, brown, or solid green. There's so much still unknown about the genetics of eye color and I think a lot of answers lie with those in-between, "hazel" eyes. I just recently talked with a "green" eyed woman whose husband has blue eyes. Their oldest son has "brown" eyes. Really, though, the mom has greenish hazel eyes and the son has brownish hazel eyes and yes people question his paternity. Luckily, he got his father's red hair!
On eye color, I also met a woman yesterday with yellow eyes. I don't know how else to describe it. They were not even amber. They were yellow. Explain that genetically. Quite pretty, I might add. |
