Two possibilities. (1) Because you already knew enough about his field to ask questions without erroneous built-in assumptions and to then understand his answers. (2) Because I am naturally ungracious.

Again, if you find me ungracious, arrogant, and debasing, why come to me? There are other experts out there with whom you would probably be more comfortable.

In your time as an expert, I'm sure you spoke on panels or gave speeches. Do you have any transcripts I can review or have any of these organizations published any, maybe that can save us a lot of time as I can learn the details of your thinking that way...likely online.

A side, semi-related question, You referred me to your book. The publishing company has the same name as this site and it is a wholly owned subsidiary...have you always published under a company you own (or co-own)? I also considered self-publishing once, although not owning my own company. You can IM me, as that is way off topic though.

If you want to "learn the details of my thinking," by far the best way is to read Legal History fo the Color Line. I already mentioned that you can find it in a nearby library, if you prefer not to purchase a copy.

Another way to "learn the details of my thinking," would be to browse through my online essays.

Conference proceedings are harder to come by. Since I make the full text of all my public presentations available online, conferences usually just provide the links. (The MHA used to copy them bodily into their website but stopped doing so a few years ago, and just provide links instead.) Nevertheless, you will find my name listed as presenter at conferences if you google my name along with "Melungeons" or with "Redbones", for instance).

You can also visit the Interracial Voice magazine's website. Scroll to the bottom and search on my name.

For that matter, just google "Frank W. Sweet"; people often re-post copies of essays that I have written, especially my military history essays.

Another way to "learn the details of my thinking," would be to attend one of my law school lectures. I lecture regularly at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville. In fact, if you find yourself in Jacksonville FL next Monday 2/23/09 at 2:30 PM, please consider yourself invited to audit my lecture. There will be a 30-minute question/answer period at the end. Now that I think of it, The Florida Coastal School of Law has video-taped my lectures for re-showing within the school, but you would have to contact them to see if they make copies for the public. You might call Dean Donald Jones at 904-680-7747.

Since googling my name turns up about 3,000 hits, I suspect that you do not really want to "learn the details of my thinking." You can find that easily enough on your own. I think that what you may actually be looking for is my scholarly CV. If so, just click on the link.

No. If you check my CV, above, you will see that I published in Interracial Voice long before I started my Ph.D. work in the history of U.S. racialism. For that matter, I published nearly a hundred articles in professional journals as a computer scientist, long before I retired to become a historian. Google [Datamation "Frank Sweet"] or [Computerworld "Frank Sweet"].

Also, I currently have several works in other publisher's pipelines. My name appears as author of "Cultural Diversity during the Second Spanish Period" in the book Florida Spanish Colonial Heritage Trail Guide, published by the state. And I appear as author of "House Bill 79 in 1911 (a.k.a. One Drop Rule)" in The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture. Both will be released soon.

Backintyme Publishing (formerly known as Boxes and Arrows Publishing, and still listed thus by BIP) long pre-dates my own history-writing. It was started in 1983 by Boxes and Arrows, Inc. a database engineering firm that I founded. All of its titles deal with database design. My son now owns and operates Boxes and Arrows, Inc.

When I became professionally interested in U.S. history, I discovered that it was hard or impossible for objective scholars of U.S. racialism to get published by university presses. (The sole exception, Mercer University Press, has a 4-year backlog.) So I created the "Backintyme" imprint to this end. Several years later, when I finished my dissertation, I decided to let Backintyme publish it because of Mercer's backlog.

Do you have a book in you? If so, email me at fwsweet@backintyme.com and let's talk. Keep in mind, however, that Backintyme's editors are far more tyrannical about fact-checking than I am in this website.

Honestly, thank you very much for that. I will reread it later when I have time in detail. It is truly interesting you started off in technology before becoming a historian.
