Not sure this belongs here but what the hell.

Is it possible that a African American whoes family has lived in the United States for centuries can have significant West Indian ancesty? Were slaves ever resold from the Caribbean to the US?

Thanks

Yes. I believe that up to one third of the slaves sold in New York, when it was under British rule, originated in the then British West Indies. Crispus Attucks was believed to have had Barbadian origins as did Prince Hall. Some of the earliest slaves in South Carolina had Barbadian origins as that state was settled by planters from that island. The Geechee (Gullah) dialect sounds very much like Bajan English, in fact moreso than it does sound like Krio and the other Pijin Englishes of West Africa.
