At 2:37 in to the video she talks a little about her view on race.
I also heard it rumored she wants to play Michelle Obama. I have never read anything when she talks about her racial identity, but I know she has played white and black characters on Saturday Night Live. She is a lot lighter than she looks in this video, I did read she "tans" a lot. I have seen her un-tanned and she is just slightly darker than the average white American.
For those that don't know, her mother was the late singer Minnie Riperton:
and
Jewish Composer Richard Rudolph:
I couldn't find a picture of him...but based on pictures she looks like her mother, but she is lighter and has a thinner nose. She actually did a skit playing her mother on SNL and my father said she really looked and talked like her.

Why not get Gwynneth Paltrow to play Michelle O? She's about as close as Maya Rudolph is.
Let's get a similar looking AA actress (famous or not) to play Michelle Obama? Someone talented and attractive, like Aisha Tyler, Gabrielle Union, Regina King, Gina Tores (actually B. Hisp.), Kerry Washington? Instead of all these 'mulattos' or 'redbones' I think the FLOTUS would be more HONESTLY and REALISTICALLY pictured this way. What's wrong with using an AA who somewhat RESEMBLES her
But these below? WHY? Maya Rudolph - mentioned in this thread
Maya Rudolph, besides having the best first name in the universe, is very talented. Her new movie with Jim from The Office (can't remember the movie title or his real name ) is getting great reviews.
I can she why she would want to play the FLOTUS but my personal opinion is that she does not have the right phenotype for the part. She has the talent, not the looks. She used to KILL Whitney Houston and Beyonce on SNL even though she doesn't look a thing like them.
I'd vote for Aisha Tyler on looks. She's tall, dark brown and very striking like Michelle.
Unlike BHO, I don't think Will Smith should play him in a movie. They look nothing alike.

A great role for Maya Rudolph would be a remake of PRIVATE BENJAMIN, Goldie Hawn's old film abou the spoiled Jewish American Princess who enlists in the Army.

I'm a big fan of Maya too...
As far as Aisha Tyler...right on, I agree.
As far as BHO and Will Smith. THANK YOU You know how many white people during the election told me that Obama looks like Smith!??! I was like I must look like Denzel. haha
I'll bet they cast a dark skinned man to play Barak and a biracial woman to play Michelle.
Seriously, many people can't overcome their programming to see what's actually in front of them.
I agree 100%! I find casting 'good' actors who actually look like the person they are trying to portray helps tell the story especially if 'race' is an important factor in that person's life. The one exception to this rule was in the movie "What's love got to do with it?". Angela Baskett doesn't look a damn thing like the real Tina Turner but she played that part so well, I really didn't care!
I know the one person I hope doesn't get the role of Michelle Obama is Zoe Saldana (or Christina Milian for that matter). She has appeared on the cover of Latina magazine twice speaking of her pride in being a latina (which she rightfully should), yet she makes a living playing African-American women. I don't think I have ever seen her playing a Hispanic role. I do agree she has very West African features, however if someone has to get paid off these movie roles I'd rather it be a woman that is actually African-American or at the very least of African-American descent! This kind of thinking is probably why I have tolerated Halle Berry for so long. Say what you want about her being a horrible actress and "stealing" roles from dark skinned Black women, but when she's on interviews she at least expresses pride in her African-American heritage!
Getting off my soap box....................my vote goes to Kerri Washington, who is my favorite actress (of any race) right now, playing Michelle. I think she's so beautiful and talented. If she turned it down I would get Tariji P. Henson.

Transracial - and fellow Jew-latto — Maya Rudolph is best-known for her wacky work on Saturday Night Live. But Rudolph — who’s dad is Jewish and mom is Black — is taking things a bit more serious with an appearance on the upcoming second installment of The Black List: Volume 2 (which airs Thursday, Feb. 26). The HBO documentary series chronicles the experiences of notable African American at their own pace and in their own words. The first installment featured folks like Thelma Golden, Richard Parsons and Bill T. Jones. Part 2 includes Rudolph (above), along with folks like Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick and former Black Panther (and fellow Brandeis alum) Angela Davis.

Rudolph's musical talents are frequently employed on SNL; she sings as Beyoncé Knowles in the Prince Show sketches, as the Space Creature in the Gays in Space sketches, and elsewhere. Her chameleon-like ability to change her looks, and her impressive command of many accents have also led to her playing an unusually wide range of ethnicities on the show, often with only a change of wigs; she has been white (Lisa Kudrow, Barbra Streisand), Asian (Lucy Liu, Lisa Ling), black (Diana Ross, Tina Turner), Latina (Charo, Jennifer Lopez), and more. As Nooni Schoener, she, along with Fred Armisen, created a couple from an unspecified Scandinavian country, who have unplaceable accents and bewilderingly foreign manners. Rudolph is also able to play male characters (Scott Joplin, Lorne Michaels, Justin Guarini, Mario Vazquez) in addition to playing females

A movie does not need to be about The Obamas. What whould it be about? Why would anyone want to make amovie about them?
The Obamas are very young, alive and have just started a public life together.I mean by that, they have not been in the news and politics for decades.Just a few years.Wait until they get in their 70's.
MyaR.has a lot for her mother. Same smile. She probably has alot for her dad too.
