I actually watched this show last night.
I think it would be great if Wendy or Leslie won. They both seemed down to eath and nice.
Wasn't it sad how Wendy (I also suspect she is Creole) lost everything in Katrina? Goodness, I think it's great she's moving on with her life.
I couldn't STAND Jade. VERY arrogant. And I don't hardly see why... Each cycle, there seems to be at least one grade A you know what. (Rhymes with witch...) But wait and see, Tyra will break her down till she admits her actual insecurities hidden behind the tough as nails facade.
To be honest, who I'd REALLY like to win is the African girl Nnenna.
She has exquisite bone structure and features, poise, and is very articulate and mature. I think she has a very good chance. |

I really liked Wendy, I was glad Tyra knew more about her sadness than the others who were quick to dismiss her. That's got to be a crazy feeling. I hope she puts her all into this.

lol I know what you mean, I think she is insecure because of her age, she is a beautiful woman with, Humble & Sassy is sexy but like you said the other thing is just not attractive.

Yes, Nnenna(Nigerian) is well put together. Those other girls have to step their game up to compete with her right now.
I like how asian women are EXOTIC and African and Black women are REGAL. I hear those terms used all the time. Not saying I have a problem with it.
This girl (described as Regal as well) has good varsatility as well
I find it interesting how Jade who is a "quadroon' looks very much or more or less blacker than people would expect. Her hair is still very kinky curly. |

TRUE. I was thinking the exact same thing... When they showed a picture of her dad, I was shocked that he wasn't darker skinned. Remember when she said her white mom was "exotic"? I'm thinking it's possible she could have distant black and/or native-american ancestry without possibly knowing it. Heck, there are MILLIONS of white Americans who do. Those distant genetic non-white appearance markers could have lined up with her husbands which explains Jades IMO stereotypically first generation black/white biracial look.
But then again Ty, we're judging appearances based on American standards. These are VERY different than the standards held by other nations...
You have to just about look like a tanned skin Caucasian with curly/wavy hair (and preferably light eyes) to even be considered biracial to many. The bar is set VERY high in the U.S. I believe. If you have nappy/extremely curly hair, caramel colored to medium/dark brown skin, at least one identifiable stereotypical "black" facial feature without a Spanish surname, you're pretty much going to be considered straight up black or "light-skinned black" by many.
Like we've discussed here at ODR in the past, hair texture has a great deal to do with ones "racial" perception of others. I think it's the strongest factor in fact. More so even then color.

I think Nnenna, the Nigerian girl, proves not all West Africans are very dark ( an almost black skin color.) They come in a varity of shades from meduim brown to almost black and she looks like most African American women. Most West Aficans I know are about her skin color and they are pure Black.
I laugh when dark skinned African Americans think they look different from Blacks in Africa. Most could go there and be mistaken for a native African.
PS Jade is beautiful, I thought she was half Asian and half Black based on her appearance. Both of her parents probably look very exotic. |

That's true Felicia, or maybe she is an 'ethnic' white, someone with a 'look' French, Portugese, or something like that

True again, but still in America there is certain expectation of a Mulatto in the 20th century to look a certain way, and a 'quadroon' to look a bit whiter. Probably because a lot of 'African-Americans' have some degree of admixture. But good point

True, but her eyes and very high check bones even the full lips and especially the almost kinky, curly hair. Makes me think of someone probably part Asian. They did show a picture of the mother. She did have a more SW european look |

| "Quadroon" is a very insulting, demeaning "slave-term" used to qualify and define multiethnic people by "pedigree"(like dogs). Stop it! |

Sister you need to calm down. This site isn't just another free for all chat group. We deal with everything from the historic to the present. All the members here know when I used that term I was dealing with someone who is the child of a (biracial:mulattoe) and a (white) which was historically considered a quadroon. That term was not always and only used in the USA slave states. |
