why we like her?

It's not hard to imagine why we would like Vanessa Williams. She is beautiful, talented, genuinely nice, and she has been surrounded by some juicy scandal. What scandal? Well, back in 1983 she was crowned Miss America 1984. Vanessa was the first black American to have that honor, but she resigned because Penthouse magazine was going to release, without her consent, some nude photos that she had posed for in 1982. OK, maybe by today's standards and Donald Trump's belief in "second chances" Vanessa's scandal wasn't so scandalous.

why is she famous?

Vanessa Williams is known as the first black Miss America, a title that she was forced to relinquish. Fortunately, she was able to overcome the controversy and parlay it into a successful music and movie career. Her hit single "Save the Best For Last" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five week in 1992 she has appeared on such television shows as Ugly Betty and in hit movies like Erasure (1996) and Shaft (2000).

bio

Vanessa Lynn Williams was born on March 18, 1963, in Millwood, New York. Her parents, Milton and Helen Williams, were both music teachers, which leads us to wonder how Vanessa ever got started on the piano and the French horn. It wasn't long after her introduction to music that she discovered her naturally beautiful and silky voice, which became such a passion that she pursued singing at Syracuse University as a Theater Arts major.

Ole ‘Nessa stripped down for the cameras to her bare bones showing that tailfeather for Allure magazine as DGood previously reported. This issue will hit stands on May 1st. This photo is more tastefully done than the previous photos she took back in 1984 when she lost her crown for posing nude and engaging in soft porn with other women for the cameras. Losing her title to Miss America and all of the controversy behind it has made her a strong woman today, where she is now able to be confident, hold her head up high and accomplish great things. I guess that is part of the whole concept behind her recent spread in Allure called “What Lies Beneath.” Though it may be walkable getting boonie for the cams at 62 out here, but I partially understand… You do you ‘Nessa…lol.

Some people will say "cosign" when they agree with something another person has said but don't have anything to add. It's kind of like saying "yeah, what s/he said."

Vanessa Williams joins ‘Housewives’
Actress will play ‘wicked new housewife,’ ABC says

By Alex Dobuzinskis

updated 6:36 p.m. ET, Tues., May 18, 2010
LOS ANGELES - Actress Vanessa Williams will trade her scheming ways on TV comedy "Ugly Betty" for a role on a show where just about everyone seems to be plotting something: "Desperate Housewives."

The ABC network said on Tuesday that Williams will play "a wicked new housewife" in the upcoming new season starting in September, in a regular role that will see her make an appearance in just about every episode.

"Desperate Housewives," which had its 2010 season finale on Sunday, stars Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker as four denizens of suburban Wisteria Lane. Their lives are more dramatic and often times sordid than the facade they try to maintain, but they stay close friends.

Williams played Wilhelmina Slater, an editor of fashion magazine MODE on the ABC comedy "Ugly Betty," which ran from 2006 until it was canceled this year.

Her character, Wilhelmina, butted heads with the wealthy scion of the publishing family that owned MODE, as she tried to wrestle away control of the company in a series of secret schemes.

Williams was nominated for three Emmy Awards for her role on "Ugly Betty." She currently stars in the Broadway musical "Sondheim on Sondheim."

Williams in 1984 became the first black Miss America. But she resigned the crown amid controversy when nude photos of her, taken before the beauty pageant, were published in Penthouse magazine.

On the strength of her singing talents, Williams staged a comeback with her 1988 debut album "The Right Stuff." After that, she scored hits with such songs as "Save the Best for Last" and won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Grammy for her song "Colors of the Wind" from the 1995 movie "Pocahontas."

I always thought she's come to look whiter over the years. If you compare her pictures years ago you can see it.. although it's mostly because styles have changed as have makeup techniques.

VW is a good actress and lives a decent life. Quiet really.
I always liked her.
Her looks, seems like makeup, lighting from cameras ,sun photos, etc. all makes a difference in pictures.
I thought she was miscasted as Mother Heneritte DeLille, a Free Person of Color, in the movie about DeLille's life. A White American actress would have better. Shannen Doherty could have pulled it off. VW looked nothing like DeLille. That's Hollywood for you. The thinking was get a tannish complexion actress.Who. Easy. VW. It was so wrong.
