<b>How to include pictures in a message in TheStudyOfRacialism discussion group.</b>
Ultimately, you must make the picture (for instance, "pb270014.jpg") available to the site software. This takes three things.
First, the picture must be within a directory under the control of a web server (for instance in directory, "thestudyofracialism.org/forum/29/").
Second, you must know the full URL of the picture (for instance, "http://thestudyofracialism.org/forum/29/pb270014.jpg").
Third, the directory (and its URL) must be open to the public.
The second requirement is the one that stumps many people. The mere fact that you know the URL of a web page that displays the picture does not mean that you know the URL of the picture itself. For example, examine the following web page <A HREF="http://thestudyofracialism.org/forum/picdemo.htm">http://thestudyofracialism.org/forum/picdemo.htm</A>. The top picture is our latest grandson with his dad, steering his dad’s yacht. The bottom picture shows the baby with his mom on the boat. This URL that you just clicked (ending in "picdemo.htm") is the URL of the web page displaying the two pictures. But this URL is not enough to include either picture in your posting. You must know the URL of the photos themselves.
If a picture is located within a directory under the control of a web server that you personally manage, then you would already know the picture’s URL. But then, if you managed a web site, you would not need to be reading these words.
If you do not personally manage a website, then you might be able to get a picture's URL by right-clicking on it's image on a web page, choosing "properties," and reading whatever it says at the bottom under "address." Alternatively, you can: (1) make a copy of the picture that you want to post and (2) upload the copy into the forum/store directory of the backintyme.com website. To make a copy of a picture from a web page display, right-click on the picture and choose "save picture as". You may change its file name (for instance, "pb270014") but do not change its file extension (for instance, "jpg"). This will put the picture somewhere in your computer’s harddisk.
To upload the saved picture into the forum/store directory of the thestudyofracialism.org website, <A HREF="http://thestudyofracialism.org/forum">click here</A>. The picture will be uploaded into a directory related to your personal user-id in the discussion group. Its URL will be something like "http://thestudyofracialism.org/forum/29/pb270014.jpg". The "29" in the example will actually be your personal user-id number. The "pb270014" in the example will be the actual filename that you gave the picture.
Finally, whether you uploaded a copy to backintyme or found the picture's original URL, to include the picture in your post, type: "". For example, "". Notice that there must be no space anywhere between "".
